It's now early June and we are still waiting for the Irish summer to begin! Whatever the weather, there are always plenty of jobs to be done in the garden. Here's our picks for getting your garden into great shape this June! Garden

  • Plant up all your baskets, containers, and hanging baskets with summer bedding plants.
  • Keep all your plants well watered on hot sunny days.
  • Remember to deadhead and feed your plants regularly for a longer flowering period.
  • Hoe borders to prevent weeds from spreading and seeding themselves.
  • Stake tall perennials and sweet peas need training and tying into their supports.
  • Check out for vine weevil in containers and treat accordingly.
  • Also look out for slugs and snails and treat the problem with slug pellets, broken egg shells, a bit of salt, copper strips, beer etc.
  • Clip evergreen hedges.
  • Remove green shoots from hardy evergreen variegated shrubs.
  • Keep feeding your lawn and mow once a week.
  • Prune spring flowering shrubs
